Through History our pupils learn about significant people, events and places from both the recent and more distant past. We believe it is important for children to learn about change and continuity in their local area, Britain and in other parts of the world. Pupils study historical events creatively across the curriculum. They use different sources of information to help them investigate the past both in depth and in overview, using dates and historical vocabulary to describe events, people and developments. We have strong links with local museums and ensure children regularly visit these and gain real life experience of primary and secondary historical artefacts. We are passionate in ensuring that good use is made of our local environment, which is rich in resources.


We are fortunate to be situated in exceptional school grounds and are continuously striving to develop and improve our outdoor learning environment. Our school boasts a garden, nature garden and outdoor learning area, all of which enables children to experience geographical inquiry first hand. Geography enables pupils to investigate a variety of people, places and environments at different scales in the United Kingdom and abroad, including the local area, then find out about different environments and the people who live there. Our pupils begin to learn about the wider world through creative teaching strategies and links to our partner school in Kenya as well as exploring opportunities to carry out geographical inquiry inside and outside the classroom. Children are encouraged to ask geographical questions and use geographical skills and resources such as maps, atlases, aerial photographs and ICT.

Within our school, we explore and celebrate a range of cultures and traditions across the curriculum. Intercultural understanding is an important part of learning a second language and is integral to our teaching of French. Aspects of literacy and oracy are taught in a variety of practical ways, throughout the school, relevant to the age of the children.


The science teaching within Trinity Academy Richmond actively encourages children to work both independently and with others in practical ways, developing secure subject knowledge, investigative skills and scientific vocabulary. The science topics we cover enable many areas of the curriculum such as Literacy, Numeracy and ICT to also be explored. The children undertake investigations, making predictions, carrying out the practical activities and then analysing the results.
